Error Installing iKernel.exe

Setup initialization errors can be caused by a number of factors.

Occuring when

inserting the CD to install

Software must be installed from a user account with Administrator privilege.

  1. If you just ran an InstallShield setup, wait a few seconds and run the setup again.
  2. Clean out the Temp directory:
Go to the Start Menu and select Run.
    Type cmd and click OK.
In the DOS prompt, type set.
    Press Enter.
Find the values for TEMP and TMP
Go to the location of the Temp directory and delete all files and folders in it.
Delete the Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine folder and rerun setup.
  3. Reinstalling Internet Explorer and Windows service pack can also repair a number of corrupted/missing core Windows files.
  4. Another potential cause is a missing Stdole.tlb, stdole32.tlb, or stdole2.tlb file. These files should exist in the System or System32 directory. For further information about these files, contact Microsoft.
  5. Check the access privileges for the following registry keys:
Use regedt32.exe(*) to alter the security settings. Give Full Control to following user types:
    Administrator (on the local machine)
    Created Owner
Using Regedit.exe(*) check the value of CommonFilesDir registry entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion to ensure that there are no trailing spaces or tab characters in the text of that value.

Warning: Modifications to the Windows Registry, if not done correctly, can cause serious problems to a Windows system.
