Better than Radar?

Radar will no longer be produced nor sold as of March 15, 2017

Worldwide, Radar, Encyclopaedia Homeopathica and WinCHIP have been the leading software in their domain for almost a generation. We are proud to count more than 45.000 satisfied users.
Here are the reasons why RadarOpus is the homeopathic software of the future, a leap ahead of our old software. These items are clear advantages over Radar, EH and WinCHIP.

All in one

One suite and one interface gives access to all data and functions a homeopath needs, whether that is a Repertory, Materia Medica or Patient file information.
You have access to virtually any function and information by first selecting one of the five "Table of content-icons": Repertory, Materia Medica, Patient File, Remedies or Families.

One single search screen

All types of information in all types of documents can be searched, starting from one and the same screen. If a repertory extraction does not provide enough information, one click searches for the remedy in certain Materia Medica documents. Another example: to find information  on a very small remedy, you can search all repertories and all Materia Medicas in all languages at the same time at dazzling speed.

One single Synthesis Repertory

In RadarOpus, the Synthesis database contains all different languages. Any additions or corrections will be effective in all languages. Any language can be chosen as the main one and then up to two other languages can be displayed with each symptom. This allows great flexibility to international teachers.
For the moment, Synthesis has been synchronized in five languages: English, French, German Italian and Spanish.
Other languages are in progress, as more translation work is needed to bring them to the same level as the main languages.

Unlimited back, forward and history buttons

RadarOpus keeps track of your position in Repertories and Materia Medicas. Anytime you can revert to a symptom you used with the back, forward of history buttons.

Integrated internet browsing

RadarOpus contains an integrated internet browser, allowing surfing from within the program with the same back, forward and history buttons as for repertory and Materia Medica symptoms.
Through a right click on the mouse, the internet can be consulted to find all types of additional information, e.g. more pictures or information on remedies (Wikipedia, Google).

Integrated translation tools

A translation tool by Google has been integrated in RadarOpus, allowing translation into 57 languages. This can be used to:

  • translate a repertory screen (in any other language than the five official translations)
  • translate a Materia Medica screen (e.g. translate a Portuguese proving into German). As you page down, the same translation is automatically added

Integrated links to databases

A single click access offers extra remedy information in the folowing databases:

  • PassPort (Vermeulen F.), the most extensive homeopathically tailored substance information database
  • Provings. com database (Sherr, Schroyens, Vermeulen)
  • database (Wichmann)
  • GRIN Taxonomy for Plants database
  • NCBI Taxonomy browser
  • HAHTI Digital Trust Libray
  • Vithoulkas Books online

Powerful LiveUpdate flexibility

Whenever an Update is released, the RadarOpus user is prompted to install the next LiveUpdate when he/she is online while opening the program. A LiveUpdate can install any of the following: new program implementations, bug fixes, new data or correction of data.
Whereas Radar only allowed LiveUpdates of the Repertory program, the RadarOpus LiveUpdate offers many more possibilities to keep you up to date, such as:

  • correcting repertory content, such as symptoms and remedies
  • correcting Materia Medica content anywhere needed
  • adding or correcting translations
  • adding new remedies to your remedy catalog
  • expanding and correcting families (groups of remedies)

More (free) books

New repertories, Materia Medicas, provings, etc.  are only added to RadarOpus, the new program. Here is a list of new books in RadarOpus.

Different versions of RadarOpus came with new, free books. If a package in RadarOpus is of the same level as the Radar/EH package, there are more books in the corresponding RadarOpus package. Some examples:

  • Radar 10.5 Pro, German: RadarOpus Pro has 19 volumes Materia Medica more
  • Radar 10.5 Easy, German: RadarOpus Pro has 7 volumes more

Since version 1.41, more free volumes in different languages (esp. recent provings) have been added for all users. The integrated translation tools make them accessible for everybody.

New remedies information

Synthesis 2009 TE in Radar describes 2.375 remedies out of 4.497 remedies, listed in Radar's remedy catalog.
RadarOpus comes with information on new remedies, present in the new repertories (Sherr, Degroote, etc.) and in the new References (such as new provings). New remedies are only added to RadarOpus.
Consequently, the remedy catalog of RadarOpus has been updated to list 6.717 remedies. These figures indicate unique remedies and do not include synonyms.

New modules

New modules are only added to RadarOpus.
The first one is the Polar Symptom Analysis, automatically adding polar symptoms to an analysis in Bönninghausen's Therapeutic Pocket Book.

Integration with hand held devices

The Synthesis App (available on SmartPhone, iPhone, Tablet or iPad) can mail a repertory analysis to RadarOpus (version 1.40 or later), where this analysis can be edited and/or saved in your regular Patient file.
Available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Native Mac and PC

RadarOpus has been developed with cross-platform tools. This means that no emulation is needed to run RadarOpus on a Mac, as the code is native Mac.

Support remains free

Support for Radar and RadarOpus is free during 12 months after the first installation on maximum 2 computers of the same user.
However, 12 months after the first installation, Radar users must be pay for support (30 €/ US$35 per half hour unit).

After this initial 12 months period, support for RadarOpus remains free, unless the support is not related to RadarOpus itself. Support for RadarOpus has to be paid only if it is not related to RadarOpus itself, e.g. in case of another hard disc, a new computer, etc.

Compatible with recent Operating Systems

The development of Radar has stopped in July 2010 (last version 10.5.003), for EH in December 2009 (version 2.5) and for WinCHIP November 2011 (3.1.04). Each software guaranteed compatibility with Windows OS Windows 7 (released October 2009).
As our development has stopped, compatibility with more recent OS cannot be guaranteed.
When Windows 8 was released in October 2012, it appeared that Radar was still running; the same happened when Windows 10 was released. However, that situation has changed ( see next point).
To date, Radar can only be run on Windows 7. It is unlikely that our old software will remain compatible with upcoming updates of that OS.

Less vulnerability

On May 10, 2016, Microsoft released updates for Windows 8. When the user (automatically and innocently) installed these updates, Radar 10.5 could not be used any more. The same happened in August 2016 when Microsoft released updates for Windows 10.
Uninstalling these Windows  Updates will expose the user to vulnerabilities that the Windows Update was trying to resolve.

We cannot resolve this issue as the programming of Radar stopped in 2010. Such Operating system related problems appeared only much later and could not be anticipated by Archibel.

Because of these increasing vulnerabilities and because of the release of RadarOpus 2.0 (including editing tools), Radar will no longer be produced nor sold as of March 15, 2017.
